Damp-rated vs. Wet-Rated

There are two types of indoor outdoor ceiling fan; those that are damp-rated, and those that are wet-rated. The type you choose can play a big role in terms of where the ceiling fan can be installed and how it will handle the elements. It's best to evaluate the location you want to install the fan first, then determine which type of fan is best.

A damp-rated ceiling fan is one that is perfect for an area with an overhead roof, such as a porch. They are generally weather-resistant, but not able to handle a full-blown storm. On the other hand, wet-rated fans will do just that. They can handle the elements perfectly fine and install in most areas where you will see the weather possibly get to the fan. This also makes these fans especially easy when it comes to cleaning.

Decide which type of fan will be best for you in the desired location, then you can find the right fan for you.
